AP Screen / Block Printing System
AP Screen/Block Printing System
A simple and inexpensive printing system giving extremely high quality, professional results for screen/block printing etc.
Before You Begin
- Fabric/garment should be thoroughly washed prior to use in order to remove manufacturers finishes. Most fabrics are suitable for printing e.g. cotton, polyester cotton, l00% polyester etc. Fabrics with a low surface adhesion e.g. silk, polyamide, wool etc. will require special care during the drying process.
- It is always a good idea to carry out test prints on a small piece of fabric to ensure results will be as anticipated.
- Do not be tempted to use too much concentrated fabric colour. This will not be absorbed by the fabric and will come out during the washing process.
- Try applying with a brush, stencilling, screen-printing, block printing, spraying, sponging etc.
- Screen printing: To prevent screen blockages whilst printing in hot, dry conditions the following solution of Urea may be added to the print medium: 3g Urea per l00g print medium. (Dissolve l part Urea and 2 parts water – allow to cool then add to print medium).
- Wash screens out thoroughly, with water and washing up liquid, to avoid clogging.
- Wash fabric once fixing has been carried out.
Adva-Print Standard Binder
For use on cotton, polyester cotton, l00% polyester etc.
Place Fabric Binder in a container and carefully add the required amount of concentrated fabric colour/fluorescent colours until the desired shade is obtained (approximately 5g colour for every l00g base used i.e. l part colour to 20 parts base).
(The colours may be intermixed prior to use to produce numerous additional shades).
Leave the print to dry thoroughly. Once dry, heat fix by baking at approximately l40°C for 4– 5 minutes.
When screen printing, the use of 42 – 62 mesh monofilament screens is recommended to obtain even coverage/fine line definition. Store at 6°C – 40°C in a closed container.
Adva-Print EXpandit Three Dimensional Puff Binder
Produces 3D effects. It can be applied straight from the container without adding colour, heat
cured and, once expanded, gilded or painted etc. Alternatively, it can be tinted with the AP
Concentrated Fabric Colours.
Place fabric binder in a container then, if required, add concentrated fabric colour – ** a maximum of 2 – 3% addition of fabric colour is recommended (i.e. 2 – 3g colour to l00g base). (The colours may be intermixed prior to use to achieve numerous additional shades).
Blend fabric colour and three-dimensional binder together thoroughly.
Dry at l20 after work has been completed. This is when expansion will take place.
Cure at l50c for 1 – 2 minutes maximum. Store at 2°C – 36°C in a closed container.
Shelf life – 6 – 8 months. Some slight distortion in fabric can occur when heat cured.
Adva-Print Binder for use with Lustre Powders/Glitter etc.
Specially formulated to give a clear finish when used with Colourcraft Lustre Powders/Glitter etc. (See Colourcraft Lustre Powders and Glitter Crystals on page 12 – items 3 & 4 of our Product Range).
The amount of glitter/lustre powder added to the fabric binder depends on the desired effect required and also the particle size of the glitter/lustre powder being used – normally add approximately l part glitter/lustre powder to 6 – 10 parts base.
When Screen Printing – open mesh screens should be used (l0 – l2 cm threads per cm).
Or Once dry, heat fix by baking at approximately l30C for 5 minutes or iron for 2 minutes at the hottest setting for the fabric used. Store at 6°C – 40°C in a closed container.
Adva-Print Pearl Binder
Pearlised binder for direct use – to obtain subtle coloured pearl effects – add l% – 3% (5g – 30g per kg) Concentrated Fabric Colour until desired shade is achieved (i.e. lg + Fabric Colour to l00g Fabric Binder). The addition of Glycerine is useful – approximately 10% and upwards as needed, to aid runnability.
When Screen Printing – relatively open screen meshes should be chosen.
Once dry, heat fix by baking at approximately l30C for 5 minutes. Store at 6°C to 40°C in a closed container.
Adva-Print Opaque Binder
For use with light and luminous colours when printing onto dark dyed fabrics. Suitable for use on multicolour prints. Can be used to produce coloured imitation discharge effects.
Place Fabric Binder in a container and add the Concentrated Fabric Colour (the amount used depends upon the depth of shade required – (use approximately l part Concentrated Fabric Colour to 20 parts fabric binder).
Leave the print to dry thoroughly.
Once dry, heat fix by baking at approximately l40c for 4 minutes.
When screen printing using this binder, relatively open screen meshes should be chosen e.g.
Rotary Screen 60’s mesh, Flat Bed 43T. Damping of the screens before commencing printing and when the machine is stopped for any length of time is recommended. To reduce drying in
properties – approximately 10% Glycerine can be added. Store at 6°C – 40°C in a closed container.
Adva-Print Gloss Binder
Used for obtaining glossy effects on coloured cotton or mixed fabrics. For coloured effects, add
a small amount of the Concentrated Fabric Colour.
Place Fabric Binder in a container and add the concentrated colour as required (approx. 4%).
Leave the print to dry thoroughly.
Once dry, heat fix by baking at approximately 140°C for 3 minutes.
To obtain maximum effect, it is recommended that a screen with 18 – 20 mesh per cm is used.
Fixing Agent
For addition to Fabric Binders when using fabrics which will not withstand high temperatures during the curing process..
When using on synthetic or synthetic blend fibres: Mix Fabric Binders and Concentrated Fabric Colour as above, then add 2 – 5g Fixing Agent for Synthetic Fabrics. Mix Well.
Leave the print to dry and then heat cure at a temperature to suit fabric being used.
*CAUTION – The fixing agent is non-toxic. However, we recommend the use of gloves and
goggles to prevent possible skin irritation.
SAFETY IN USE:
Rubber gloves and protective clothing, eye protection etc. is recommended.
Precautions should be taken to avoid accidental ingestion, inhalation and skin and eye contact. Keep containers closed and away from children.
Us products in a well ventilated area.
*Products can start to loose their binding properties over time and it is recommended to use them within 6 months from purchase date for best results.
Information contained in this publication or as otherwise supplied is believed to be accurate and is given in good faith, but without guarantee, as we have no control over conditions of use and individual application.
**Most of our Fabric Binders are heat sensitive cross linking binders and it is important that they are stored in a dry cool atmosphere away from sources of heat like radiators etc.
Our binders do contain anti-fungicides but it is important to replace lids at all times to avoid air born spores, which could contaminate the binder.
