Brusho® Crystal Colours Hints & Tips
- Always remember that a little Brusho goes a long way.
- Create bursts of vibrant colour for backgrounds – Spritz water on to card or water colour paper – Sprinkle Brusho® Crystal Colour over it, watch as it bursts into an amazing firework of colour across the page. Leave the background as it is or, for additional effects – spritz again – add additional colours if required.
- Try using with stencils or leave to dry and stamp over the top.
- Fabric such as wall hangings, design work and stage backdrops etc. When using more than one colour, start with the lightest colour first, gradually working through to the darkest (Brusho® is not fixable on fabric and is for decorative use only).
- These highly pigmented water-colour crystals are exclusively manufactured by us at our factory in Sheffield.
- Acid free. Non Toxic.
1. Sprinkle Technique
- Spritz water onto watercolour paper/card/gift tags etc. Sprinkle Brusho® over it using pepper pot/ shaker or hole poked in the lid. Spritz again for additional effects. Stamp over the top.
2. Bubblewrap/Texture Print
- Spritz a textured surface with water then sprinkle with Brusho ®. Press your card or paper onto the textured surface to make a colourful background print.
3. Painting
- Paint/draw using diluted Brusho®. By varying the strength of dilution, Brusho® can be mixed to any shade imaginable. For extremely intense, vibrant colours only use a small amount of water.
4. Bleach Technique
- Achieve amazing results using Bleach/Bleach pen/Baby sterilising fluid e.g. Milton to disperse the Brusho® and create additional effects.
5. Expanding 3D Medium
- Add Brusho® to other mediums e.g. EXpandit 3D/Puff paint binder. Mix a few grains of Brusho® with the medium in a pallet. Apply through a stencil or freehand. Expand with a heat gun.
6. Thickened Technique
- Use thickened Brusho ® *(see method hints & tips) on glass/acetate to create a monoprint, for decorative grained papers/backgrounds or simply use as a transparent painting medium/glaze.
Hints and Tips
- MIXING BRUSHO WITH WATER: eg. for water colour painting and using as a wash over a resist design , warm/hot water should be used. Add Brusho® to water not water to Brusho®. Mix well.
- BRUSHO THICKENER: is available from Colourcraft C & A Limited. When you are ready to use the thickener, dampening the sheets of paper to be used will help to keep the paste workable for longer.
- Method for thickening Brusho: Sprinkle 20gms Brusho® thickener into 600ml water. Stir very briskly to prevent lumps. Leave the mix for at least 24 hours before using until the thickener has been absorbed by the water. Thin slightly if necessary.
- BLEACH/STERILISING FLUID TECHNIQUE: Achieve amazing results using Brusho® and either Bleach or a Bleach pen (or Milton baby sterilising fluid). It is an excellent way of reproducing the intense brightness of stars, suns, fire, nebulae, water and wave highlights. For pure white effect apply bleach/sterilising fluid whilst design is still wet. For a slightly yellow/orange finish, apply after the design is dry.
- ADDING BRUSHO® TO OTHER MEDIUMS: For a coloured resist effect, add Brusho® Crystal Colour to Colourcraft C & A Ltd Aquawax or Acrylic Wax. Also use it to colour other mediums e.g. our 3D Puff Binder and Crackle effects – great for card making and also fabric design.
- BRUSHO® AND PVA: Mixing Brusho® with PVA creates a wonderful transparent paint. Add sand, rice fine gravel/other materials for a textured, grainy finish.
