Cyanotype Sunprinting

• A range of pre-treated products for creating easy print designs in the sun (no mess).
• All fabric is pre-washed (no shrinking).
• Printing can be carried out on both sides of fabric and paper (economical).
• Simply print in the sun and rinse in water.

Instructions

• Choose design for Sunprint – computer print, negative, leaves, flowers, buttons and other found objects etc.
• Remove the Sunprint paper/fabric from the UV protective bag where the sun’s light cannot reach it – either in outdoor shade or a dimly lit room. This prevents slow exposure of the paper before printing.
• Place design directly on top of the Sunprint paper/fabric.
• When taking prints of flat/almost flat objects, secure with glass. This helps give a sharper image by preventing sunlight from going underneath the edges.
• Place in the sun for 5 – 20 minutes – the exposed areas will fade from blue to white.
• On a cloudy day, expose the print for a little longer until the same process takes place.
• If required, turn the print over and expose the other side.
• Remove the design from the Sunprint paper/fabric.
• Rinse the Sunprint with water until the water runs clear (1-5 mins) the longer it is left in water, the deeper blue it will go.
• To heat set – either iron well with a warm dry iron or tumble dry.

Hints & Tips

• Leaving to dry on paper/cardboard/paper towel avoids formation of water spots.
• For yellow results rather than the traditional cyan coloured print, try washing the finished design in a laundrydetergent containing phosphate.
• Also, for additional colours – see our range of coloured cotton fabrics.
• With the exception of the above-mentioned process for obtaining a yellow shade, Sunprints should be washedin a non-phosphate laundry detergent.

Silk is 100% Silk thread with a hand rolled hem.

Will withstand repeat rinsing when using the toning process
Ideal for all types of surface design and mixed media applications. For additional effects – hand colour with
water colour paints and other products, will also tone to yellow and sepia
