Pearl Powders

Pearl Powder Lustre Pigments For Use On Clay, Paper, In Candle Making, General Art & Craft Use Etc.

An exciting range of highly versatile iridescent powders which are non-toxic, non-tarnishing and light fast. They are NOT based on metallic powders and are completely safe to use.

General Art and Craft

Lustre Powders can be mixed with most viscous mediums e.g. P.V.A, Colourcraft Clear Fabric Medium, Varnishes, Water-colours, Oils etc. and, when used on clay – reproduce the look of precious metals, hammered copper, pottery etc. They are particularly effective over dark colours e.g. brown or black textured clay, and can withstand temperatures in excess of 700°C and are, therefore, suitable for use in a kiln.
Lustre Powders can be used in many different ways on paper and, when mixed with gum water, can be used for calligraphy. They can also be applied dry to porous surfaces.
For a superb metallic resist medium, mix Lustre Powders with Colourcraft Aquawax.
Interesting effects can be achieved by sprinkling the dry powders onto a surface such as P.V.A.
They can also be used in candle-making to achieve metallic effects.
The colour of the interference (duo) colours changes with the viewing angle.
This is an extremely versatile product, which is used in many different ways. Listed below are some starter techniques but only through experimenting with Lustre Powders will their many uses become apparent.

General Art & Craft

Apply clear varnish, P.V.A. or Clear Fabric Medium to surface. When almost dry, sprinkle Lustre Powder over top, lightly brush off excess powder. This is particularly effective with the Bronze/Gold colours for creating an antique look. A similar effect can be achieved by sponging or gently rubbing the Lustre Powders in with a dry, soft cloth.

Using Lustre Powders with Colourcraft Aquawax

Produces outstanding resist effect designs on paper and ceramic and also a good, economical, general-purpose painting medium.

  1. Mix a small quantity of Aquawax with the Lustre Powder.
  2. Apply to paper/ceramic and leave to dry thoroughly.
  3. As an alternative to applying by brush, try sponging, splashing etc.
  4. For additional pearl effects – mix Aquawax and silver or pearl Lustre Powders together, then gradually add Brushoâ Water Colour until the desired shade is achieved.
  5. Mix with Clear Fabric Medium and use as a Paint. The Fabric Medium dries totally clear, leaving only the colour of the lustre powder visible.

Using Lustre Powders on Fabric

Design work can be carried out on natural fabrics using Lustre Powders and Lustre Powder Clear Fabric Medium

  1. Mix 7-10 parts Clear Fabric Medium with Lustre Powders.
  2. Apply to fabric.
  3. Heat fix by ironing on reverse of fabric or baking at 140°C for approximately 4 minutes.
