Approximate Quantities for Strong Colours

Dye20gms per 500gms dry weight fabric
Salt170gms per 500gms dry weight fabric
Urea20gms per 500gms dry weight fabric
Soda Ash (Fixer)60gms per 500gms dry weight fabric

Method

  1. Add dye, salt and urea to washing machine making sure they go through the holes in the drum completely.
  2. Put the damp, pre-washed fabric in the washing machine.
  3. Mix the fixer with a small quantity of hot water and pour into the fabric softener section of the washing machine.
  4. Select a minimum 60°C wash programme. If necessary, the cycle can be extended without the dye being drained away by turning the machine off before the end of the cycle and resetting to the beginning of the wash cycle again.
  5. Let the machine drain through and complete the rinse cycle.
  6. Run through a complete hot wash cycle with detergent to remove any excess dye.
  7. Remove fabric and dry.

Note

Excellent results when dyeing with black procion dye will be achieved when using the conventional techniques listed on our standard instruction sheets. Black procion dyes do not give good results when used for washing machine dyeing.

Washing Machine Dyes were originally intended for use in top loading machines, modern washing machines do not generally use enough water to enable the dyes to work as efficiently. We would always recommend conventional methods of dyeing wherever possible.
